Other Weight Measurements

Other measures of weight are important and are used by physicians at the Center for Weight Loss to help more accurately measure your weight and its potential effect on your health. Particular scales or body composition tests can be done by your doctor to find out if the amount of fat in your body is too high.

Ideal adult body fat is:

  • Men: 8-15% body fat
  • Women: 15-22% body fat

The average American male has a 24.5% body fat and the average female has 33% body fat.

Finally, another way to measure extra weight is to measure your waist size. People whose waist size is too large are at the highest risk of weight-related disease.

Normal waist size is:

  • Men: Less than 40 inches
  • Women: Less than 35 inches
