Andrew I. Spitzer, MD

Associate Director, Cedars-Sinai Institute for Joint Replacement

Andrew I. Spitzer, MD is Associate Director of Cedars-Sinai Institute for Joint Replacement. Dr. Spitzer's primary medical and research interests include hip and knee replacement surgery and implant design, orthopedic surgery, blood management in total joint replacement, prevention of postoperative thromboembolic disease (blood clots), and the non-operative management of Osteoarthritis of the hip and knee.

Dr. Spitzer is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Spitzer has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed publications and contributed chapters to textbooks on hip and knee replacement. He has lectured extensively and presented scientific papers throughout the United States and around the world. He also serves as a consultant reviewer to many of the major orthopedic journals, including the

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research.

Dr. Spitzer is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee
Surgeons, Western Orthopedic Association, California Orthopedic Association, Los Angeles Academy of Medicine and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Spitzer received his bachelor's degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at McKay Laboratories for Orthopedic Surgery Research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and a surgical fellowship in joint replacement surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston.
