Cancers of the breast and reproductive tract strike more than one-quarter million women in the U.S. each year.
The Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a multidisciplinary program that is working to reduce the threat of cancer to women through research, education, early detection and prevention. Established in January 2002, the Women's Cancer Research Institute fosters collaborative research between scientists and physicians to bring the most innovative laboratory discoveries directly to women with breast and/or gynecologic cancers.
Under the leadership of Dr. Beth Karlan, an internationally recognized gynecologic cancer surgeon and research scientist, the Women's Cancer Research Institute works side by side with Cedars-Sinai's patient care programs and services to integrate innovative research across a wide spectrum of programs devoted to preventing, diagnosing and treating women's cancers. These programs include (the):

- GenRISK® Adult Genetics Program (a genetic testing and risk assessment program)
- Women's Health Services
- Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center
- S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center
- Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
The Women's Cancer Research Institute also published Today's Woman - Staying Healthy* to educate women on the risk factors and warning signs for women's cancers.
