

Barry A. Kramer, MD is Medical Director of ECT in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Kramer previously held faculty appointments at State University of New York (SUNY), Stonybrook in New York City and at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC).
A board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Kramer holds an added qualification in geriatric psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Since 2001, he has been consecutively listed in the annual listing of America's Top Doctors.
Involved in ECT since 1974, Dr. Kramer's research interests include all clinical aspects of ECT, particularly maintenance ECT, minimizing the side effects of ECT and ECT practices throughout the world.
Dr. Kramer is Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the Association for Convulsive Therapy. He is also a member of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology and the Society for Biological Psychiatry. He has numerous written articles for such peer-reviewed publications as American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, Anesthesia and Analgesia, Comprehensive Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Lancet and the American Journal of Psychiatry. In addition, he is on the editorial board of the Journal of ECT
Dr. Kramer received his bachelor's degree from New York University, University College of Arts and Science in the Bronx and his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed a psychiatry residency at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the Bronx.
