Genetic counseling allows a woman to evaluate her risk through detailed assessment of her family history. Genetic testing can determine if a woman has inherited one of the known "breast cancer genes" (BRCA1 or BRCA2). Cedars-Sinai's GenRISKŪ Adult Genetics Program provides genetic counseling and testing. We generally recommend genetic counseling and testing in women if you have two or more first-degree relatives (mother, sister, daughter) with breast and/or ovarian cancer.
Our genetic counselors keep team members up-to-date on the latest genetic discoveries. Through genetic counseling and testing, we hope to identify high-risk patients and prevent them from becoming cancer patients.
Ora Gordon, MD oversees the GenRISKŪ Adult Genetics Program and the genetic counselors who are part of the Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center team.
