Technology Transfer Science Officer

Carlos Encinas, MBA, PhD, serves as a member of the Cedars-Sinai Technology Transfer Office, providing support for the protection and commercialization of intellectual property generated at the Medical Center as well as promoting collaboration between investigators at other research institutes and universities, both domestic and foreign.

As a Science Officer at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Encinas covers three technology transfer areas:

  • Outreach
  • Project intake
  • Lead generation

Outreach involves educating and communicating with both internal university and external corporate audiences about technology transfer. Internal outreach involves communicating intellectual property policies and practices to faculty and staff. External outreach involves communicating with and educating the community of potential external partners doing business with the Medical Center¿s research enterprise.

In his role in the area of project intake, Dr. Encinas serves as the initial point of contact with faculty and staff participating for the first time in technology transfer activities.and participates in assessing and undertaking projects requiring intellectual property management by the Cedars-Sinai Office of Technology Transfer.

In the area of lead generation, Dr. Encinas works with other licensing personnel in technology marketing and generating leads for new technologies and innovations.

Before joining Cedars-Sinai, he worked in venture capital as an analyst, evaluating and managing the development of new technologies for market as well as forecasting and commercializing industrial and academic projects.

Dr. Encinas earned a doctorate degree in molecular and cellular biologyg, conducting research in the area of congtrol of gene expression by nuclear receptors (VDR). He also earned a master of business administration degree with an emphasis on finance and new product development. Both degrees were awarded by the University of Arizona.
