The Outpatient Cancer Center is one of the few cancer centers that offer Respiratory Gating (RG), an advanced radiation technology that allows higher doses of radiation to the tumor while sparing nearby, healthy tissue. The radiation dose is given only during specific times in a breathing cycle and is only given to patients who can hold their breath for a short period of time.

Patients with difficult lung, liver and upper abdominal cancers and lesions may be candidates for RG.

RG has minimal side effects and may be used in combination with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
