Academic Affairs

Cedars-Sinai's academic enterprise represents over 200 faculty members and a significant graduate medical education training program. It generates in excess of 80 million dollars in extramural awards.

Although community based, the Medical Center is a university-affiliated teaching institution. The Department of Academic Affairs, in addition to providing oversight to the academic endeavor, is committed and involved with operational responsibilities in research administration and compliance, comparative medicine, fiscal services and physician's billing, human resources administration, business development, strategic planning and community relations.

As a major teaching hospital for the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Medical Center's programs have assigned to them second-, third- and fourth-year medical students on a regular basis in the Departments of Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery.

More than 215 physicians are committed on a full-time basis to the Medical Center, and their collective and individual interests are related to Graduate Medical Education. Each medical department has a full-time director responsible for the training programs. Professional activities are directed by the senior vice president for Academic Affairs.

The voluntary medical staff comprises more than 2,200 specialty board-certified or board-qualified physicians. They represent all of the specialties and subspecialties and collaborate with full-time medical staff in the teaching responsibilities of the graduate medical education programs.

To contact the Academic Affairs office directly, please call (310) 423-4691 or fax (310) 423-0119.
