Outpatient Psychotherapy Groups

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai offers a variety of outpatient psychotherapy groups. To enroll in a group, schedule an appointment through the Intake and Referral Center by calling (310) 423-4715.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Anxiety

Patients are taught to utilize CBT techniques to understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behavior and be able to employ strategies to maximize healthy living. Techniques specifically address modifying thoughts and behaviors. Group treatment for anxiety disorders has been shown to be an innovative treatment option to significantly reduce symptoms in an efficient, effective manner.

Time: Monday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Depression

Patients are taught to utilize CBT techniques to understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behavior and be able to employ strategies to maximize healthy living. Techniques specifically address modifying thoughts and behavior. Group treatment for depression has been shown to be an innovative treatment option to significantly reduce symptoms in an efficient, effective manner.

Interpersonal

This process group focuses on interpersonal relations, self-esteem, mild depression and anxiety. The group addresses the dynamics that occur during session, helping to facilitate patient change, growth and heightened self awareness.

Time: Tuesday, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Older Adults

This interactive therapeutic group is designed to give older adults an opportunity to discuss issues related to the aging process, including changes in lifestyle, personal loss, new roles, retirement, depression, anxiety, physical limitations, interpersonal relationships and coping strategies. Most patients are age sixty and older.

Leader: Ellen Creamer, LCSW

Time: Thursday, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Women's Group

This ongoing group gives women an opportunity to get support and learn about experiences of others. This is a process group, as well as an educational group. There is time for individuals to talk about issues that concern them.

Coping Skills

This coping group is a psychodynamic support group for individuals with long-standing mood and thought disorders. The group's focus is to increase healthier communication and socialization skills. The group also helps enhance or develop new skills to cope with stressors, anxiety and frustration to promote better meds compliance and reduce the rate of rehospitalization.

Time: Wednesday, 2:30 to 4 p.m.
