

Juan Lechago, MD, PhD is a gastrointestinal pathologist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Lechago most recently served as Professor of Pathology and Medicine (Gastroenterology) at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and as Director of the Surgical Pathology Service at The Methodist Hospital, also in Houston. In addition, he has served as Professor and Vice Chairman at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and as Chief of the Laboratory Service at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Lechago's primary research interests have focused on the neuroendocrine pathology of the digestive system and on gastrointestinal tract malignancies and their precursor conditions, such as Barrett's esophagus, chronic gastritis and inflammatory bowel disease. He has presented his findings at lectures and conferences around the world.
A board-certified anatomic pathologist, Dr. Lechago is a founding member of the Endocrine Pathology Society and the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society, of which he is a past president. He is also a member of several other prestigious professional societies.
Dr. Lechago has authored numerous book chapters, including contributions to Functional Endocrine Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology and the third edition of Bloodworth's Endocrine Pathology, of which he is also Co-Editor. He has written many articles for peer-reviewed publications and has served on a number of editorial boards.
Dr. Lechago received his bachelor's degree from Colegio Nacional de Monserrat and his medical degree from Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in Argentina. He received his master's degree and his doctorate in pathology from the School of Graduate Studies, Queen's University, Kingston in Ontario, Canada. After an internship at Hospital Nacional de Clínicas, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Dr. Lechago completed his residency in pathology at Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
