The Nathan B. Friedman, MD Research Society was established to ensure the continuation of important research activities in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Nathan B. Friedman was an internationally renowned physician, pathologist and scientist. He served the patients and physicians of Cedars-Sinai for more than 50 years and was Chairman of Pathology at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. Dr. Friedman was an outstanding diagnostic pathology with extraordinary devotion to delivering the highest level of care for patients.
Although primarily committed to patient care, Dr. Friedman believed that the traditional triad of pathology (service, teaching and research) are all necessary to ensure excellence. He authored the first textbook and atlas of tumors of the genitourinary system. He served as a mentor to some of the leading pathologists in the country, including individuals who themselves went on to professorships and chairs of major academic departments of pathology. Dr. Friedman continued his research well into his eighties, publishing his last scientific paper at the age of 87.
Individuals interested in furthering the tradition of Dr. Nathan B. Friedman can contact Stephen A. Geller, MD, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
