Facilities

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is an 877-bed tertiary care facility for which medical education always has been a core mission. The Medical Center supports a Level 1 trauma center and a multi-organ transplant program, including heart, lung, liver, kidney, bone marrow and pancreas. The integrated Cedars-Sinai Outpatient Cancer Center provides expert oncology services to patients of all ages. In addition to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine's program, Cedars-Sinai's Graduate Medical Education program offers ACGME-accredited residency programs in internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, OB/Gyn, radiology and numerous subspecialty fellowships. Cedars-Sinai's Medical Library contains 11,000 volumes and 400 print and online subscriptions. Also available are the UCLA Medical Center's library materials.

Each pathology resident is assigned his or her own desk for the year and is issued a computer with Internet access. The departmental library contains volumes covering all specialty areas, as well as 10 pathology journals. Study sets are available in surgical pathology and cytopathology. Pathology assistants are available to work with the residents, and the grossing room has an ample number of cutting stations. The autopsy area is spacious with modern equipment, and Clinical Pathology has up-to-date, modern equipment in all areas. In both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, the close proximity of resident desks to faculty offices helps facilitate consultations.

The Burns and Allen Research Institute, located on the Medical Center campus, supports active research projects in many exciting areas. The residency program affords many opportunities for involvement in research within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and in collaboration with other departments.
