The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers a four-year program accredited by the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. There is a formal affiliation with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA.
The Cedars-Sinai program has five residents at each level and is designed to offer increasing levels of responsibility.
The first year of residency provides a broad experience in OB/Gyn with rotations in general obstetrics and gynecology, gynecologic oncology, ultrasound, genetics, and ambulatory and emergency medicine.
The second year is divided between obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and reproductive endocrine and infertility at Cedars-Sinai, as well as about four and a half months of OB/Gyn at an affiliated hospital, California Medical Center.
The third year residents spend most of the year on gynecology, gynecologic oncology, obstetrics, and reproductive endocrine and infertility at Cedars-Sinai. At California Hospital they rotate for three months on OB/Gyn and at a local Kaiser affiliate they spend two and a half months on gynecologic surgery. They also have an abortion/family planning with Planned Parenthood and elective rotations during which they can explore other interests, pursue research, or participate in outside rotations.
The chief resident year is evenly divided between the various specialty services, including obstetrics, gynecology, and other clinic services including urogynecology. The chief resident also has a significant supervisory role.
Throughout the program, the residents staff busy off-site outpatient clinics. Residents are assigned to their own continuity clinic at the LA free clinic, a busy, well-established community clinic serving the underserved. There are subspecialty clinics at Cedars-Sinai for high-risk obstetrics, reproductive endocrine and infertility, urogynecology, and gynecologic oncology.
