The purpose of this study is to observe the way in which information from a cardiovascular MRI scan influences diagnosis and management of different cardiovascular illnesses, and how the results of the MRI might be useful in the prediction of future health in patients having the test. The study is also intended to help in developing better methods of analyzing cardiac MRI examinations. The collection of MRI scan result information into a database with many patients will allow observation of patterns within groups of people with the same cardiovascular illnesses. Comparison of the MRI results with patient¿s other cardiovascular imaging test results (such as echocardiograph, catheterization or CT scan results) will allow observation of what additional information was added by the MRI and whether the MRI result agreed with the results of other tests performed.
Any patient having a cardiac MRI to assess the heart and/or blood vessels of the chest at Cedars-Sinai can participate in this study. The goal is to have information from all types of patients (representing all ages, men and women, healthy and very sick patients) so that what we learn from this study can be applied back to all those types of people.
By participating in this study, patients may be contacted by mail or telephone one to three times over a 10-year period, when they will be asked a few questions about their cardiovascular health, which will take less than five minutes of their time.
