Your doctor will refer you for a therapy evaluation or consult, based on medical necessity. This may occur if you have experienced a recent decline in function (capability), if you have had a recent illness or injury that has affected your ability to resume your prior activities, or if your child is not meeting his or her developmental milestones on time. At that time, a thorough evaluation will be completed by one of our licensed therapists. Recommendations for therapy will be made based on the results of the evaluation.
Your doctor will prescribe and request evaluations by physical therapists, occupational therapists and/or speech-language pathologists. The therapists will evaluate and treat your condition while you are in the hospital. As part of the discharge plan, recommendations for continued therapy through Outpatient Rehabilitation Services may be made by your treatment team.
At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, we provide therapy in a variety of settings (also referred to as "levels of care"): Acute Therapy Services in the hospital; the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (7SW)at Cedars-Sinai, and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services in the Mark Goodson Building on San Vicente Avenue. Community resources, such as transitional care facilities, are also available to you. We can help you transition from one level of care to another. As always, your doctor will be an integral part of these transition plans.
Most of our patients who are at home are able to get to Outpatient Rehabilitation Services in the Mark Goodson Building for treatment. If that is the case, your doctor will make a referral by writing a prescription for outpatient therapy. The patient then makes an appointment with Outpatient Rehabilitation Services for therapeutic services.
