Leo A. Gordon, MD, FACS

General Surgeon

Leo A. Gordon, MD is an attending physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) with offices in the Outpatient Cancer Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. Dr. Gordon focuses on general surgery with a particular emphasis on benign and malignant conditions of the breast and gastrointestinal tract. He also has extensive experience with surgical laparoscopy.

Dr. Gordon currently serves as the Associate Director of Surgical Education at CSMC. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified and recertified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Gordon has been a visiting professor of surgery at numerous medical centers around the country. He has published extensively on various topics relating to surgical science and education, and he is the author of Gordon's Guide to the Surgical Morbidity and Mortality Conference, the seminal text in the field of resident education. He also authored Cut to the Chase - 100 Matrix Pearls for Doctors, a lesson-type summary of his experiences in medicine. Dr. Gordon received Cedars-Sinai's Golden Apple Award for excellence in clinical teaching and a special Certificate of Achievement Award for creating and implementing the M+M Matrix, an innovative method for assessing complications in medicine. In 2005, Dr. Gordon was awarded the Cedars-Sinai Medical Staff Chief of Staff Award for his efforts in implementing the M+M Matrix.

Dr. Gordon's residency in general surgery was at the Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. He then completed a fellowship in general surgery at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in San Diego. Dr. Gordon was awarded his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago.
