
Behrooz G. Sharifi, PhD is a research scientist with Cedars-Sinai's Atherosclerosis Research Center. He serves as Program Director of Research and Principal Investigator at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, where he holds the Dorothy and E. Phillip Lyon Endowed Chair in Molecular Cardiology. Dr. Sharifi is also a Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and an established investigator of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Sharifi's primary interest involves studying the genesis and development of coronary artery disease, including atherosclerosis research. He is currently investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying differences in the propensity of different arteries to develop atherosclerosis.
Dr. Sharifi's research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association and a fellow of the Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology. Dr. Sharifi has served in several capacities, including as a committee member in the NIH Experimental Cardiovascular Sciences Study Section, the NIH Vascular Cell and Molecular Biology Study Section, and the American Heart Association Peer Review Committee for Research Grants. He has published numerous articles related to cardiovascular diseases.
After receiving his bachelor's degree from the University of Tehran, Dr. Sharifi earned his Master's degree in chemistry from University of Pittsburgh and his doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Kansas.
