

Elaine Kamil, MD is Clinical Director of Pediatric Nephrology and Program Director of the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Kamil also serves as a Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Dr. Kamil's research interests have centered on immune mechanisms in kidney diseases, including extensive experience in the treatment of children with nephrotic syndrome. She has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of infants with congenital kidney diseases from prenatal diagnosis through infancy, childhood and adolescence. Under Dr. Kamil's leadership the Division of Pediatric Nephrology has strengthened its commitment to a multidisciplinary team approach for providing comprehensive care to children and adolescents with chronic kidney diseases.
Dr. Kamil has been an active volunteer with the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California for more than 18 years, receiving multiple volunteer service awards. While serving on their patient services committee, she organized the first pediatric patient education conference for the families of children with kidney disease, an activity which continues annually in Southern California. She currently serves on their board and their Medical Advisory Board. She is also a member of the American Society of Nephrology, American Society of Pediatric Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, International Society of Nephrology and International Society of Pediatric Nephrology.
Dr. Kamil received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her pediatric residency training at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and her pediatric nephrology fellowship training at the UCLA School of Medicine Center for the Health Sciences prior to a research fellowship in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
