Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)


The S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center offers Uterine Fibroid Embolization to patients who suffer from symptomatic fibroids.

Mark L. Friedman, MD, Director of the Uterine Fibroid Embolization Program and Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, leads our team of highly-trained physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and technologists.

The S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center offers Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) to patients who suffer from small liver, lung, and kidney tumors.

Peter J. Julien, MD, Director of the Radiofrequency Ablation Program and Chief of Thoracic Imaging, leads our team of highly-trained physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and technologists.

Cardiac Imaging

View a two minute movie on our state-of-the art dual-source 64-slice CT scanner, and on our integrated cardiac imaging program. Our program includes Coronary Calcium Scans , Coronary CT Angiograms , as well as all other cardiac imaging exams.


Women's Imaging

The S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center offers a multitude of imaging procedures for women. Along with Breast Imaging we also offer Cardiac Imaging and minimally-invasive treatments and exams, such as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE).

  • "New Hope Emerging for Inoperable Cancer"
    Peter Julien, MD, discusses the Radiofrequency Ablation as a treatment for inoperable tumors in Physicians Weekly. "In a recent evaluation of 23 patients with kidney cancers who received RFA and were followed for up to 4.5 years," said Dr. Julien, "there has been no evidence of recurrent malignancy."

  • "Tumor Zappers"

  • Thomas J. Learch, MD , attending radiologist at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center, an expert and published author in the field of musculoskeletal imaging was featured in a story on KABC-TV. Patient, Avery Burton was the first patient to undergo radiofrequency ablation at CSIMG to treat a benign and rare bone tumor called osteoid osteoma.     "Rockstar Treatment"
    It wasn't fair. Avery Burton's life was supposed to revolve around high school band practice, teaching karate, and rocking out with his band, "The Blame". But, the 17-year-old Los Angeles resident feared being sidelined forever when an osteoid osteoma threatened his mobility. Learn how an innovative technique utilized at S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center healed Avery's painful condition and allowed him to continue living an active and fulfilling life.
