Cedars-Sinai's Pediatric Services offers a variety of programs and services for physicians. These include the Pediatric Hospitalist Program, a full schedule of Grand Rounds on pediatric issues, pediatric clinical case conferences and Graduate Medical Education.

For more than five years, members of the faculty in academic general pediatrics have been providing hospitalist services for hospitalized children, including patients with routine general pediatric problems (such as asthma, r/o sepsis, bronchiolitis and dehydration) and patients with complex clinical problems requiring coordination of pediatric and surgical subspecialists.

We have a long track record of efficiently using hospital resources, excellent relationships with referring doctors and subspecialists and effective coordination of care with other members of the healthcare team.

We have written practice guidelines and, through our leadership, have demonstrated superb compliance with these guidelines for clinically appropriate cases. We are available throughout the day at the Medical Center, allowing us to visit the bedside of our patients several times each day as needed, thus ensuring that the care our patients receive is optimal.

Because of our focus is on caring for the hospitalized child, we provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based medical care. We also have expertise in dealing with many of the most time-consuming issues in hospital-based care, including discharge planning, family meetings and end-of-life discussions.

We are available in a variety of capacities to assist referring doctors in caring for their inpatients. We can provide coverage throughout a child's hospitalization, assuming the care as the attending doctor. Alternatively, we also provide occasional coverage, such as coverage on weekends and holidays. We frequently provide general pediatric coverage for tertiary surgical or medical patients whose referring doctors do not have privileges at Cedars-Sinai.

The hospitalist faculty is supplemented each year through coverage by the chief resident in pediatrics, who provides coverage one week each month.

Pediatric Grand Rounds are held at the Harvey Morse Auditorium (unless otherwise noted) on Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The participants should be better able to: (1) Analyze issues in the diagnosis and management of common and unusual pediatric problems and apply knowledge to clinical practice; (2) Recognize and integrate ethical issues in medical practice; (3) Recognize, interpret and integrate knowledge of the effect of socioeconomic issues on medical decision making.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity. Cedars-Sinai designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of 1.0 hour in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
