The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center is an active member of the Cedars-Sinai Research Institute and interacts with many other programs at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for both clinical and research projects. Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies seek out the IBD Center to do studies on their newest, most advanced products. In addition to drug research, the doctors and scientists at the IBD Center design and perform investigations to answer questions that arise from their own experience with patients.

The IBD Center performs clinical trials (research studies) to find new and more effective treatments for the various forms of intestinal disease. Most medications and medical techniques that are currently used have been tested in extensive clinical trials before becoming available to the public. Patients with IBD may have an opportunity to participate in a various clinical trials that are being conducted at the IBD Center. The ability to participate in such trials depends on the eligibility requirements for the study, the patient's condition and what stage the trial is at.

The basic scientific side of the IBD Center consists of ultramodern laboratories actively involved in IBD research. Located in the Cedars-Sinai Research Institute's Barbara and Marvin Davis Building, the research labs of the IBD Center feature leading-edge scientific equipment and are designed to allow investigators to share and build on recent findings. Our team of laboratory investigators, technicians and support staff are engaged in studies into the causes of, and possibly better treatments for, inflammatory bowel diseases.

Thanks to the excellent reputation of our research labs, doctors and scientists from around the world seek training at the IBD Center to gain the knowledge to become independent investigators.

Our trainees have pursued careers at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York; the University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) Medical Center; University College, Cork, Ireland; the University of Pittsburgh; the University of Winnipeg; Oxford University; and the University of Regensburg in Germany.

Scientific data generated by the IBD Center's research has been presented in numerous medical journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Gastroenterology, Gut, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the Journal of Immunology.

Our researchers have also reported their findings at annual meetings of the American Gastroenterological Association, Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology, Mucosal Immunology Society and other professional organizations.
