Biofeedback

Biofeedback makes it easier to isolate body activities. Because problems of the anorectal area are difficult to see visually, we provide feedback using a computer monitor and a pressure device. This lets a patient see and correct the problem using specific training exercises. Biofeedback is used to identify:

  • Anismus, which is inappropriate movement of pelvic muscles that prevents stool from exiting the body
  • Incontinence, which is the inability to control evacuation of the stool
  • Rectal hyper- and hypo-sensitivity, which is respectively excessive sensitivity of the rectal area and insensitivity of the rectal area
