Bojan Cercek, MD, FACC, PhD

Co-Director, Atherosclerosis Research Center

Bojan Cercek, MD, PhD is the Director of the Coronary Care Units and Co-Director of the Atherosclerosis Research Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is also Professor in Residence at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Dr. Cercek's internationally recognized expertise in clinical cardiology is in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes. He specializes in treating acute myocardial infarction. Dr. Cercek's initial research was directed to thrombolytic therapy of acute myocardial infarction. He has completed the largest trial of antibiotic treatment of acute coronary syndromes. His experimental research is investigating the early phases of atherosclerosis and he has established several experimental models of early vessel wall thickening.

Dr. Cercek has published more than 100 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, such as Circulation, Circulation Research, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Lancet and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He has contributed several chapters to books about the complications of acute myocardial infarction.

Dr. Cercek is a graduate from the University of Ljubljana and Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. He completed his residency and fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and he worked several years in the experimental laboratory of Dr. William Ganz. Dr. Cercek is a fellow of the Council for Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He also served as District Councilor for the American College of Cardiology.
