Treatments and Programs

At Cedars-Sinai's Stroke Program, each patient is treated according to an individualized plan and a range of services specific to the patient's needs. This multidisciplinary center specializes in stroke prevention, as well as diagnosis and treatment of stroke and stroke-related disorders, including:

  • Acute ischemic stroke
  • Aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhages
  • Cerebral hemorrhages
  • Risk factors
  • Transient ischemic attack

The Stroke Program also integrates the most up-to-date medical technology with a multi-faceted approach by offering:

  • Clinical stroke research programs
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Emergency stroke services
  • Rehabilitation

A Comprehensive Center for All Stroke Needs

The Stroke Program offers comprehensive services for stroke patients on an inpatient or outpatient basis, depending on the patient's needs. Inpatient services focus on acute stroke interventions, diagnostic evaluations, prevention of stroke extension and recurrence and stroke rehabilitation. The center also has a designated unit with private rooms staffed by nurses and physician specialists with expertise in stroke. Inpatient services include:

  • Comprehensive evaluation and treatment of the underlying cause(s) of the stroke, including noninvasive testing of the carotid arteries and intracranial arteries
  • In-depth evaluation and treatment of risk factors for stroke, including blood pressure, lipids, diabetes, inflammatory conditions, hypercoagulable states and others
  • Inpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology

The Stroke Program's expertise is in its outpatient services, which focus on:

  • Stroke prevention with continued management of risk factors
  • Evaluation and care of disabilities caused by prior strokes, including physical and psychological problems
  • Outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech and language pathology
