Congratulations to you and your family on the birth of your baby! We wish you all the joy and happiness that go with caring for your newborn child.
Breastfeeding your baby can be a rewarding experience. Studies show that breast milk provides the best nutrition for your baby. In addition, it offers health benefits that are extremely valuable for infant growth and development.
Most women are able to successfully breastfeed soon after delivery. For some women, however, initial assistance may be needed to get off to the right start. Emotions surrounding the birth of a baby can be overwhelming and confusing. In most instances, breastfeeding becomes enjoyable and problem-free. At Cedars-Sinai we have comprehensive lactation support services to help you.
The Lactation Education Center is adjacent to the Labor and Delivery Suites on the Medical Center's third floor. Our staff will assist you with important information about breastfeeding your baby. We can teach you about many new breastfeeding techniques and other options, such as breast pumping.
The center is staffed with certified lactation consultants staff who have extensive training in maternal and child healthcare. We can use our broad knowledge and experience to begin basic problem solving, either through phone contact or during a private consultation, and to assist your pediatrician with diagnosis and treatment, when necessary.
Basic evaluation and problem solving begins while you are in the hospital. Often it only takes one visit from a lactation consultant to begin satisfying breastfeeding. If more is needed, the lactation consultant will continue to help. In-hospital services include:

Most parents have found that having access to this kind of information at any hour, day or night, can be extremely valuable. The information available through our info line can mean a world of difference for moms who may be discouraged about breastfeeding.
