
Calvin J. Hobel, MD, is an obstetrician/gynecologist at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he holds the Miriam Jacobs Chair in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Hobel is also a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in maternal-fetal medicine, Dr. Hobel has three National Institutes of Health research grants to investigate the role of maternal stress on pregnancy outcome. His primary research interest is in the area of pre-term birth and intrauterine growth restriction. He was recently funded to be part of a project grant to determine the role of genetics as a determinant of the stress response during pregnancy. He serves as Co-Chair of the General Clinical Research Center Scientific Advisory Committee at Cedars-Sinai.
Dr. Hobel has written articles for numerous peer-reviewed publications, such as the Journal of Infectious Diseases, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Journal of Pediatrics. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Perinatal Research Society and the Society for Pediatric Research, American Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society and the Pacific Coast Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society.
Dr. Hobel received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota and his medical degree in Psychology, from the University of Nebraska. He completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and his research fellowship at the University of Auckland National Women's Hospital Postgraduate School of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
