Telepsychiatry Clinic
“Caring exclusively for regional center clients with psychiatric disorders through telepsychiatry since 1997”
The Telepsychiatry Clinic at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is an out-patient, interactive videoconference between doctors at Cedars-Sinai and patients of regional centers around California. Since its inception in 1997, the telepsychiatry service has expanded from eight to 50 hours of teleclinics per month in conjunction with regional centers throughout California.
Who we are:
- Our doctors are trained in both adult and child psychiatry
- Because Cedars-Sinai is a teaching hospital, attendees of the Cedars-Sinai telesite may include other professionals in training
- Our expert team includes:
Child and Adult Psychiatry, Board Certified
Adult Psychiatry, Board Certified
What we do:
- We serve as consultants to local primary care doctors for the treatment psychiatric disorders of the developmentally disabled in underserved areas
- After each session our notes are sent to the local primary medical doctor who then follows through on recommendations and treats the patient directly
- We do not treat patients directly
- All treatment plans are administered locally in the community where the patient lives, not at Cedars-Sinai
Our patients:
- All of our patients are regional center clients with developmental disabilities
- We see patients of all ages (including adults)
- All of our patients are out-patients
- Our patients typically live at home or in a group home
- Our new program includes patients in crisis homes in the Far Northern Area
Attendees of the teleclinic may include:
- The patient
- Patient’s parents or other caretakers
- Patient’s regional center service coordinator
- Group home caretakers
- Behaviorists or other therapists working with the patient
Attendees of the teleclinic at the Cedars-Sinai site may include:
- Cedars Sinai attending doctors
- Doctors in specialty training (child fellows, psychiatric residents)
- Medical students
- Trainees in allied medical fields (pharmacy students, psychology and art therapists)
