Thyroid Nodules

Thyroid nodules are one of the most common endocrine conditions in the United States. Approximately five percent of the population is found to have nodules during a physical examination, while half are found incidentally by imaging studies such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the neck for other conditions. Only five percent of nodules are cancerous. Even though cancerous nodules are rare, it is extremely important to have available the best diagnostic tests in order to detect those nodules that are malignant.
