Gerhard J. Fuchs, MD, FACS

Gerhard J. Fuchs, MD, FACS is Director of the Minimally Invasive Urology Institute, Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery and a urologist at the Urology Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Fuchs is also a Professor of Clinical Surgery and Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Previously, Dr. Fuchs held a number of administrative positions at UCLA, including Chief of Endourology, Stone Disease and Laparoscopic Surgery. Since 1977 he has served on the Advisory Board of Cedars-Sinai's Endoscopic Surgery Training and Research Center.

An internationally renowned surgeon and researcher with over two decades of experience, Dr. Fuchs specializes in minimally invasive kidney stone treatments and advanced urological endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures, including robotic surgery. Results of his studies and peer-reviewed articles appear in numerous medical journals and scientific publications, and he has authored many book chapters in urology texts. Dr. Fuchs serves on the editorial boards of national and international urology journals and is currently an Assistant Editor of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Therapy and Assistant Editor for the Journal of Endourology.

Dr. Fuchs maintains an active academic calendar and is an internatinally sought-after lecturer and teacher who conducts regular surgical demonstrations and teaches his techniques around the world. He is responsible for the teaching of many community urologists and conducts a number of Continuing Medical Education programs and training workshops for urologists every year.

Dr. Fuchs is a member of a number of professional societies, including the Endourological Society, the Society for Research on Calculus Kinetics, the International Society for Urology and Engineering, the American Urological Association, the American Lithotripsy Society, the European Intrarenal Surgery Society, the Los Angeles County Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. In addition, he has been named an honorary member of urologic organizations in Chile, Mexico, Malaysia, Paraguay, Costa Rica and the United States. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Fuchs received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Heidelberg in Germany, where he also completed his internship in medicine, surgery and gynecology. He completed a postdoctoral research thesis and was awarded a doctoral degree by the University of Freiburg Medical School in Germany (the European equivalent of the United States PhD.). He later completed residencies in general surgery and urology at Tubingen University Medical School in Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Fuchs is board certified through both the American and German Boards of Urology.
