Keith L. Black, M.D., chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, received the Tom Bradley Unsung Hero Award on October 20 from the California African American Museum for his medical and scientific achievements. The award was presented at the museum's 3rd annual dinner gala, "An Artful Evening at CAAM." Dr. Black is also director of the Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute and holds the Ruth and Lawrence Harvey Chair in Neurosciences at the medical center. Ernst R. Schwarz, M.D., has been elected by the American Institute of Biological Sciences as a reviewer for federal grant applications for its 2007 term. Dr. Schwarz, who is a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai, is also a member of the study section of the Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute in Washington, DC, which supports basic and clinical research on the effects of secondhand tobacco smoke on pulmonary and cardiovascular systems.
