Effective Oct. 1, 2007, a new federal law requires that ALL written prescriptions for Medi-Cal recipients be executed on tamper-resistant prescription pads. This requirement does not apply to phoned, faxed, or electronically transmitted prescriptions. Once the new law goes into effect, Web/VS discharge prescription forms can no longer be used for Medi-Cal patients as the forms are not tamper proof. However, tamper-resistant prescription pads currently being used for controlled substances are acceptable. Note: a prescription printed from Centricity and given to the patient does not constitute an electronic prescription. Any printed prescriptions for Medi-Cal patients need to be on tamper-resistant prescription pads.
