Congratulations to Cedars-Sinai medical staff for demonstrating outstanding performance on each of the 2007 Medical Staff Quality Goals. These goals (see chart below) are designated by the MEC at the beginning of the year (business/academic calendar) and are managed by the Quality Council, a medical staff committee. Medical Staff Quality Goals 2007 - Suicide Assessment
-- 100% compliance - DVT (VTE) Prophylaxis/ Anticoagulation Therapy
-- 92% compliance - Surgical Glucose Control in Post Op Cardiac Care, < 200 POD #1 and #2
-- 93% compliance - Surgery patients on Beta Blocker therapy prior to admission who received a beta blocker during the perioperative period
-- 92% compliance - Coding and Appropriateness of Coronary Artery Stent Procedures
-- 100% compliance - Retained Foreign Objects following a procedure
The medical staff and medical center have crafted a protocol to eliminate retained foreign bodies following a surgical procedure.
"The performance around each goal showed steady improvement throughout the year," said Paul Silka, Chief of Staff. "While we did not achieve the stated target of 100 percent across the board, significant gains were made in each measure. These improvements reflect focused work by physicians, nurses and staff to engineer processes that allow for appropriate interventions to be provided for all patients. Congratulations and thanks to our medical staff for their fine efforts."
