

J. Patrick Johnson, MD, is Director of the Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders. In addition, Dr. Johnson is Co-Director of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Autonomic Disorders and Director of the UCLA Spinal Neurosurgery Fellowship Program. Dr. Johnson is also a consulting neurosurgeon at West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center and at Fort Harrison Veterans Administration Medical Center in Helena, Montana.
Dr. Johnson's current research focuses on the development of computerized image guided stereotaxic technology, minimally invasive and endoscopic spinal surgery, the use of bone morphogenetic protein in spinal fusion, outpatient lumbar microdiscectomy, endoscopic treatment of hyperhidrosis outcomes and a prospective analysis of vertebral body replacement.
Board certified in neurologic surgery, Dr. Johnson has published articles in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Spine, Neurosurgical Focus, Techniques in Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, Contemporary Neurosurgery and Journal of Spinal Disorders. In addition, Dr. Johnson serves on the editorial review boards of the World Journal of Surgery, Neurosurgical Focus and The Spine Journal.
Dr. Johnson is a member of several professional organizations, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, California Association of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American Medical Association, Los Angeles County Medical Association, North American Skull Base Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Association of Spine Physicians.
Dr. Johnson received his bachelor's degree from The Citadel and his medical degree and master's degree in anatomy and neurophysiology from Oregon Health Sciences University. He completed his internship and neurosurgical residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson completed a neurology/neurosurgery fellowship at the National Hospital for Nervous Disease in London and a spinal surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee.
