Women's Guild Lung Institute

Women's Guild of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center founded the Women's Guild Lung Institute to advance treatment and research for pulmonary diseases that affect the lives of more than 35 million people in the United States. Women's Guild, a visionary organization with roots in the finest philanthropic traditions, strives to enrich the health and well-being of the Southern California community for generations to come.

Patients with
acute and chronic lung conditions including pneumonia, cystic fibrosis,  lung cancer,  asthma and emphysema come to the Women's Guild Lung Institute for its world-class team of pulmonary specialists equipped with the latest technologies and therapies.

Redefining Surgery

Cedars-Sinai is one of the few medical centers in the world offering minimally invasive surgery for lung cancer. With video-assisted thorascopic surgery (VATS), patients experience less discomfort, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries than with traditional more invasive techniques. Our surgeons pioneered the video-assisted technique for lung volume reduction surgery, improving lung function and quality of life for emphysema patients.

Research Frontiers

Scientists and physicians at the Women's Guild Lung Institute conduct laboratory investigations and clinical trials in the major areas of respiratory disease. This dynamic "bench-to-bedside" collaboration brings medical progress to patients as quickly and safely as possible.

Our research teams are unraveling the causes of asthma, advancing the science of lung function for emphysema patients, exploring genetic and environmental influences on lung cancer, developing more effective therapies for pneumonia and cystic fibrosis and investigating new immunosuppressive medications for lung transplant patients.
