Antibiotic Auto Stop Resolution Approved

The Medical Executive Committee, acting on a motion referred by the Department of Medicine PIC, has approved a resolution to discontinue broad spectrum antibiotics after day 5 of therapy.

FDA Announcement Regarding Suppositories

The FDA announced that companies must stop manufacturing and distributing unapproved suppository drug products containing trimethobenzamide hydrochloride.

Steven Piantadosi, M.D., has been named as the first director of the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai, effective Dec. 1, 2007. Piantadosi will lead the medical center's programs in cancer research, treatment and education, as well as new initiatives that bring together Cedars-Sinai's physicians and researchers from different areas for innovative clinical and scientific collaborations.

Heated words were exchanged, but it was all in the spirit of medical education as a capacity crowd filled the ECC on April 12 for the Fourth Annual Dr. Leon Morgenstern Great Debates in Clinical Medicine Resident Competition. More than 225 people attended, including residents and medical staff members from nearly every department.

Nurses Week is May 7-11

Cedars-Sinai will observe Nurses Week (May 7-11) with a series of weeklong events, including the Nursing Award Program on Monday, May 7 in Harvey Morse Auditorium and the Berdie Justice Memorial Lecture by John Harold, M.D., on Tuesday, May 8 at 11:30 a.m. in the ECC.
