Minimally Invasive Treatment of Pituitary Cancer

At the Cedars-Sinai Pituitary Center, endocrinologists and neurosurgeons work side by side to provide patients with pituitary cancer the full spectrum of care from medical treatment to surgical expertise when necessary.

Comprehensive Services by a Team of Experts

Under the direction of Shlomo Melmed, MD, a world-renowned endocrinologist and researcher, and Adam Mamelak, MD, a neurosurgeon, the center offers:

  • Endocrine diagnostic testing
  • Neuroendocrinology
  • Neuro-ophthalmology
  • Neuropathology
  • Neuroradiology, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Neurosurgery
  • Patient support groups staffed by a psychologist
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy and radiation therapy through the Outpatient Cancer Center

The expert team at the Cedars-Sinai Pituitary Center provides care for the whole patient -- not just his or her cancer.

State-of-the-Art Pituitary Surgery

With a strong foundation in research, the Cedars-Sinai Pituitary Center offers the most advanced treatment options, including minimally invasive surgery for pituitary cancer.

Advances in technology such as the endoscope, surgical microscope and image guidance systems have led to major advances in pituitary surgery.
Minimally invasive pituitary surgery that allows for precise removal of tumors in or around the pituitary gland also leads to faster recoveries, little or no scarring and fewer complications.

In Pursuit of New Therapies

Cedars-Sinai does more clinical trials investigating the safety and usefulness of new tests and medications for pituitary disorders than almost any other facility in the country. The center has several large research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as well as an NIH training grant.

This gives patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and to benefit from discoveries as they are proven effective.
