"Never 27" Reporting Goes into Effect July 1

As of July 1, 2007, a new California law (SB 1301) mandates that Department of Health Services (DHS) Facility Reporting Requirements now include the "Never 27" list of diagnosis/reportable events.

Medical Staff Presents an Inspiring Program

The air was unusually brisk outside, but inside Cedars-Sinai an overflow crowd warmly celebrated the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Monday, Jan. 15. The 5th annual holiday celebration in Harvey Morse Auditorium featured Dr. Clayborne Carson, the official biographer of Dr. King, and a special musical tribute by the Agape International Choir.

As part of the "100,000 Lives Saved" campaign, the Medical Staff has adopted use of the "Central Line Bundle" to eliminate Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CABSI).

Following successful surgery at Cedars-Sinai to repair his defective heart valve (tricuspid atresia) last November, 15-year-old Jaime Panama-Guzman will return to his home in Ecuador tomorrow.

Jaime is one of several children brought to the medical center from Ecuador for heart surgery following a visit there in October from a team of 30 Cedars-Sinai physicians and nurses.

Michael F. Waters, M.D., Ph.D., has been appointed director of the Clinical Stroke Program in the Division of Neurology at Cedars-Sinai.

Lisa B. Cassileth, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon on the Cedars-Sinai medical staff, also participates in the clinical and teaching program at CSMC's Adult Surgical Clinic in the Ambulatory Care Center.
