More than 130 people filled the ballroom at Le Meridien Hotel on December 6 to pay tribute to Stephen A. Geller, M.D., and Leo A. Gordon, M.D., who were honored as the 2006 Alumni of the Year at the Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association's Annual Business Meeting and Dinner for their outstanding service as Physicians, Teachers and Mentors. Dr. Geller, who served as Department Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for 22 years, now serves as Chairman Emeritus and as co-director of the Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellowship. Dr. Gordon is a general surgeon with the Outpatient Cancer Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. He has been a member of the medical staff since 1979 and is noted for the creation and implementation of the M + M Matrix. They both received standing ovations from their colleagues as they accepted their awards from David Cossman, M.D., who introduced Dr. Gordon, and John Harold, M.D., who introduced Dr. Geller. Sheila Kar, M.D., who was unable to attend, also received acknowledgement from her peers as the immediate past president of the Alumni Association. During the event, the Alumni Association's 2007 officers were announced. They are: President -- Greg Orshansky, M.D.
Vice President -- Dorothy Lowe, M.D.
Treasurer -- Peyman Banooni, M.D.
